Before he was a designer, Sean Wotherspoon was an outdoor kid strapping into Teva sandals on family adventures. For this collab, Sean dug deep into Teva's archives and found something special: the Wraptor. A forgotten silhouette from the early 2000s that felt instantly futuristic. Reimagined with Sean's signature colourways and vintage-inspired details, it's archive exploration at its finest.

Sean Wotherspoon is a designer, curator, and one of the world’s leading vintage collectors. He first made a name for himself at 23 with the launch of Round Two, a now-iconic vintage shop in Los Angeles. Since then, he’s collaborated with global brands across sneakers, apparel, and even automobiles—infusing each project with his signature use of colour, unique material choices, and vintage-inspired design language. As of January 2025, he also serves as Gap’s Global Vintage Curator.

Before all that, Sean was an outdoor-loving kid, strapping up Teva sandals on family adventures in the outdoors with his dad. That early connection to the outdoors planted a seed that stuck. So, when the chance came to collaborate with Teva and explore our early 2000s archive, it felt like a natural fit.

Sean’s love of vintage is more than just style—it’s a lens for storytelling. Exploring the Teva archive wasn’t just about finding cool old shoes. It sparked something bigger: a whole world of narratives inspired by forgotten details and bold design.

The result is the Teva x Sean Wotherspoon collection, a capsule that reimagines three Teva silhouettes with future-ready footwear, colour, and character stitched into every detail. It’s a creative expression that celebrates exploration of Playground Earth, blending classic technical function with bold, imaginative design.

How the Past Inspired the Collection

While combing through the Teva vault, one silhouette caught Sean’s attention: the Wraptor. Originally released in the early 2000s, it stood out for its futuristic strapping system and technical design. That one style became the jumping off point for the whole collab.

From there, Sean imagined a whole universe—coming up with characters, settings, and stories that could bring nostalgia and future-forward style to life.

Meet the Cast

At the center of the campaign is Taka Jones, a futuristic space cowboy who leads a crew of unlikely explorers across surreal landscapes. He’s joined by Retta the space fish, Leni the astro lizard, and Scorpo the scorpion adventurer—each one inspired by a specific design detail or colourway from Teva’s past. More than just mascots for the collab, these characters represent the playful, bold spirit of the collection.

Together, they journey across surreal terrains and unknown worlds, weaving together heritage, imagination, and a shared ethos of exploration.

The capsule includes three unique styles, each with its own distinct personality but united by bold colour blocking, archival nods, and future-ready function.

The Wraptor Sandal is a modern revival of the original 2000s style that first sparked Sean’s vision. Reimagined with breathable mesh uppers, quick-release buckles, and a vibrant 360° strap system, it’s a head-turner that doesn’t compromise on function. The Wraptor Shoe is a low-profile sneaker designed for city streets, outdoor escapades and beyond. The Hurricane XLT2 is one of Teva’s most loved silhouettes and rounds out the collection. Sean gave it a colourful remix by handpicking mismatched straps from past collections, creating a patchwork sandal that’s equal parts fun and functional. With quick-dry straps and a durable, adventure-ready outsole, it’s built to roam on Playground Earth—from trail to stream to sidewalk.
